WhatsApp call: why my phone is not ringing anymore

Your smartphone does not ring when you receive calls on WhatsApp? Because it’s never fun to miss important calls, we’ve got a guide to help you fix this little problem.

No ringtone on your phone when incoming calls

Missing potentially important calls can be particularly annoying not to mention frustrating. So, if you’re having problems with your Android smartphone, the first thing you should do is check your internet connection.

You need to make sure your phone’s Wi-Fi or 4G mobile connection is turned on. Also check that your device is in an area covered by your operator’s network.

Remember also to deactivate the airplane mode. Indeed, when this mode is activated, you will not receive any notification including those informing you of an incoming call. To make sure that the airplane mode is not activated, simply open the settings of your phone and go to Network and Internet and click on the advanced settings button. Then check that the airplane mode switch is grayed out.

Enable WhatsApp notifications

Before sending your phone for repair, take a look at your notifications settings. If WhatsApp alerts are disabled or misconfigured, your smartphone will not ring when a voice or video call arrives.

  • Go to the Android desktop
  • Put your finger on the WhatsApp icon (green)
  • A new menu will open
  • Click on the little i or on App Info at the very top of the window
  • Select the notifications section
  • Check that the call notifications switch is enabled

If the problem persists, feel free to disable all WhatsApp alerts by clicking on the show notifications button. Wait about 10 seconds and press the button again to reactivate the function.

Disable Do Not Disturb mode

Do Not Disturb mode is, as the name suggests, a tool to mute your device during incoming calls. This could explain why your smartphone doesn’t respond to WhatsApp calls.

  • Open your Android phone’s settings
  • Click on the Sound section
  • Make sure the ringer volume slider is not on zero
  • Then make sure that Do Not Disturb mode is disabled

Be careful not to confuse the ringer volume option with the call volume. The latter is used to adjust the speaker volume during a phone call. If none of the solutions presented in the previous sections solve your problem, restart your phone in safe mode.

The cause of the problem may be due to a technical problem. In this case, you should contact the service department of the manufacturer of your cell phone to have it repaired.
