If you have opened an account abroad, such as N26 or Revolut, you must declare this account in your tax return. Foreign accounts are reportable even if you don’t pay taxes and even if the account was opened several years ago. Note that these accounts will not be subject to a tax, it is a simple declaration to the DGFIP via your tax return.

As a reminder, the 2022 tax return concerns the 2021 tax year. If your account was opened after January 1, 2021, it will have to be declared in 2022. The declaration must be filled out every year.

Online declaration

If you make your declaration online, as most people do, it is relatively simple. Go to the government’s tax site, and start filling out your tax return. At step 3, in ” “, remember to check the box “Foreign accounts, tax reduction or tax credit resumed ” in the category.

You will then have to fill in the Cerfa form N°3916, so remember to check this form in, ” declaration by a resident of an account opened outside France “.

At the end of step 3, you will be able to access the Cerfa form N°3916 in the side menu ” Annex n°3916 “. The first question allows you to notify the number of accounts to be declared. This is the number of accounts opened by the household. If your spouse has an account, do not forget to notify it here. Same thing for the persons connected to your declaration, like children for example.

For N26, here is what you have to fill in:

In order to continue its operations in the European Union following the UK’s exit, Revolut has, in effect, had to separate its operations into several entities, some of which are located in the EU. Alongside Revolut Ltd, the original entity, there are now Revolut Payments UAB, an electronic money institution, licensed and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania, and Revolut Bank UAB, a specialized credit institution, licensed by the European Central Bank and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania.
